Vocabulary of the month

Independent variable, dependent variable, qualitative, quantitative

Independent variable: a condition that is manipulated, or changed, by a scientist.
Dependent variable: observed and measured during an experiment; they are the experimental data. independent variable affects dependent variable.
Qualitative observations: observations that describe physical qualities and cannot be measured, which include, color, shape, smell, taste, and texture.
Quantitative observations: observations that involve measurements of length, volume, mass, etc. taken with a ruler, graduated cylinder, balance, or other measuring device.
